چکیده

This paper investigates the use of non-linear convolutional coding techniques for use in a DS-CDMA cellular communication system. Comparisons are made between various error-correction strategies and the Wiener minimum mean square error receiver filter, implemented with the same bandwidth expansion. The use of Gold codes in conjunction with an orthogonal convolutional encoder is shown to produce comparable performance to conventional convolutional coding for single user environments, and to yield reasonable capacity potential for low numbers of users. Future developments are indicated, including the possible application of this system to multipath channels.

Iterative multiuser interference reduction: turbo CDMA

We view the asynchronous random code-division multiple-access (CDMA) channel as a time-varying convolutional code. We study the case where the users encode their data, and, therefore, the single user transmitters and the CDMA channel appear as the concatenation of two coding systems. At the receiver we employ serial Turbo decoding strategies. Unlike conventional Turbo codes where both the inner...

Self-Encoded Multiple Access Multiuser Convolutional Codes in Uplink and Downlink Cellular Systems

Self-encoded spread spectrum eliminates the need for traditional pseudo noise (PN) code generators. In a self-encoded multiple access (SEMA) system, the number of users is not limited by the number of available sequences, unlike code division multiple access (CDMA) systems that employ PN codes such as m-, Gold or Kassami sequences. SEMA provides a convenient way of supporting multi-rate, multi-...

Low-rate channel coding with complex-valued block codes

This paper addresses aspects of channel coding in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing–code-division multiple access (OFDM-CDMA) uplink systems where each user occupies a bandwidth much larger than the information bit rate. This inherent bandwidth expansion allows the application of powerful low-rate codes under the constraint of low decoding costs. Three different coding strategies are c...

Rate-compatible convolutional codes for multirate DS-CDMA systems

| New nested convolutional codes and rate-compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) codes with high constraint lengths and wide range of code rates are presented. It is shown that these codes are almost as good as the existing optimum convolutional codes for the same rates. The eeects of varying the design parameters of the RCPC codes, i.e. the mother code rate, the puncturing period and the co...
